The Gland Nut is part of the MLG (Main Landing Gear) Shock Strut. The shock strut is the primary supporting member for the MLG, consists of an integral drag strut, and an outer and inner cylinder.

The Gland Nut together with the Retainer Bolt, are designed to hold the lower Bearing Carrier in place, which the lower and upper Bearing Carriers holds the active and space seals. The Seals provide an air-oil seal between the inner and outer cylinders that keeps the mixture of nitrogen and hydraulic fluid in the sock strut.
